The Treatment of Femoral Shaft Fracture with the Ender Nail

Abstract
Fourteen fractures of the femoral shaft in thirteen patients were treated by closed Ender nailing during a three-year period.
Of the fourteen cases, seven were open fractures including injury of the thigh, and others occured in old aged patients or with multiple injuries.
The results were as follows :
1. The average union time was 15 weeks.
2. The most common complication were knee joint pain, knee stiffness and distal migration of the nails.
3. Ender nailing seems tobe a good method in treating femaral shaft fractures specially with open wound or crushing of the thigh. Because this method of treatment makes open wound case easy, facilitates early joint exercise and rapid bone union
without
serious complications.
